Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Laketown Police have apprehended two suspects on charges of attempting to extort money at gunpoint. Acting on a complaint lodged by a local promoter, the police swiftly arrested the accused, identified as Arvind Prasad and Sunny Mallick. Both men are alleged to have threatened the promoter, demanding lakhs of rupees under threat of violence.
According to police sources, the promoter approached Laketown Police Station, reporting that the two men had been pressuring him for a large sum of money. When he refused, they allegedly brandished a firearm and threatened his life, warning of dire consequences if he did not comply. In response to the promoter's complaint, the police launched an operation to track down and detain the suspects.
During their arrest, police recovered a weapon from the duo, which further corroborated the promoter’s account of events. Authorities have revealed that both suspects are notorious criminals with multiple prior cases registered against them. Following their arrest, the accused were presented in court, where they were remanded into police custody for further investigation.
